Class is the place to Blog

Everyone loves to blog in class. Actually, I inspired my friend Ron to bring his laptop to the boredom central of the universe. Yess, here in Astronomy of the Solar system, we learn about optics and telescopes, which are refracting the light from……..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. That’s what would happen if I told you any more than that. Yep yep, going to Pittsburgh this weekend to help my aunt with some IT stuff, she has a couple computers she wants me to get working, so hopefully I’ll be able to do some good things there. We’re starting a relationship series during Youth Group, I’m pretty excited about that. Hopefully none of the kids have my blog address. Well I’m sure they’ll figure it out soon enough, seeing as how it starts this weekend. I like blogging during class because it’s really the only thing that I can do without looking at the computer at all. I just sit with my hands on the desk and behold, I’m communicating to you all. So my astronomy teacher just pointed to a guy and said, “Your blouse is blue”. He was wearing a T-shirt. I’ll end it with that.

What in the world is going on in my history class..

This class is crazy. I sit here and cross check everything my history prof with against Wikipedia, and most of the time it’s correct and I sound really smart when I talk. It’s really just not fair when I have a gargantuan database of articles linked to everything you could possibly want to know. It’s absolutely crazy. This class is about the DEEP SAAAOUUUTH. Otherwise known as the Deep South for us “Yankee carpetbagger”. It’s an interesting thing, and I’m not going to lie, typing notes still makes me sound like a genius. Even though I’m just blogging here. I just learned that Cockfighting is legal in 4 states in the US, and there are also several magazines titled: Grit and Steel, The Feathered Warrior, and The Game Cock. Yikes. One trainer said, “Theys as many kindss a roostas they is dawgs. You gotsta breed them for speed and powah”. When fighting time comes, the breeder puts his bird through conditioning and feeding. Each bird is weighed, tagged and put against a bird in it’s weight class. Just before the fight, handlers attach gaffs (razors). A pit for fighting usually measures 20′ in diameter. When the referee says, “BILL YOUR BIRDS”, they peck at eachother. When the ref says get ready, they put them on the ground. When they say PIT, they release their birds and they fly at eachother and claw vicisouly. They fight until one dies, or one stops pecking. The most popular type of fight is the derby, known as the “Cock Derby”. Every rooster owner pays a fee, and the victorious rooster at the end leaves a massive winning for it’s owner. The owners insist that cockfighting is an honorable fighting end for a rooster, as opposed to a simple egg laying hen lifestyle. Owners even hold such things as, “Cock Conventions”.

What…the heck.

Well All is Good

Hey yall, Yes, Yes, you are reading the blog of a Systems Software Analyist I. God comes through in amazing ways, doesn’t he? I’ve worked the full time job for 3 days now, and it is quite awesome. What is not awesome, is coming back to night classes like the one I’m sitting in right now. I spent the first 2 hours of the class coping with the fact that my computer never thought the USB mouse was unplugged from work, and therefore my touchpad didn’t work. I could get everything connected except when I needed to verify my credentials, there was a little popup balloon, which of course I couldn’t click. I could do everything but click a little stinkin balloon. Yikes. I am quite learning a bit. I have some goals in place for my new job, I figure if I post them I will be a bit more eager to get them closed.

Objectives to Achieve before October Next Year
1) Become MCP (Take 1 Exam towards my MCSE)
2) Add a portion to the image
3) Become comfortable with the entire packaging process from start to finish
4) Clean up SMS reports, collections, and Advertisements.
5) The Access Project (dun dun dahhhhhh)

Noone in my group wanted the Acess project. And for good reason. Jason said to me, “You won’t quit if I give you the access project will you?” I said, “No”. Hardly original. I should have said, “Not right away”, or something funny like that. Too bad. Man it is nice to be back on the internet during my nightclass. All I did last year was surf the web, and guess what my grade was? An A of course. Talk about a sweet deal.

And whats the deal with blogs becoming more pictures than words recently? I like to read peoples blogs and look at pictures. Hmm. I’m going to fix the way my archives work, I saw Sarabeth’s new archive and want it. Ta ta for now.

The Secretary Life is NOT for me

I’m sitting here at my internship and have decide in no way shape or form will I ever be a secretary! The amazing secretary that is usually here is enjoying her vacation in Europe and I am left knowing very little about the happenings of CEL and end up drowning in my lack of knowledge. I don’t enjoy answering the phones, taking messages, or being called the “little helper”. Wow! I can’t wait till she is back.

Stress…and a map

Sooo it’s weird waiting to see if you got the job you’ve always wanted. One of the guys I work with was fired my first “part-time” day at Ohio Savings Bank, and some of the members of my team encouraged me to apply for the job. It has been a painful two weeks since I gave thought to my options:

1) Dropping out of school and working full time
2) Staying in school part time and working full time
3) Staying in school full time and working full time
4) Staying in school full time and working part time (like i am now).

I went with #3, and applied for the job: Software Systems Engineer II. The guys in my group thought I would be a good candidate seeing as how I had learned the OSB environment from my internship, and I learn very quickly. Now comes the stressful part of waiting, especially because I KNOW that there are other people in IT applying for this position. Granted, I also know that my skill levels are equal or close to equal with theirs, but it is still a pretty nerve racking wait. I mean, this is the kind of job that you go to college to get, and here it is, potentially being offered to me right now. I want the job really bad, there’s no point in trying to beat around the facts. I have to trust that whatever happens is God’s will for my life. Makes me feel better just even typing that right there.

Now for some fun. This is where the 100 most recent people who looked at my blog are from (including one from Romania not pictured). “Shhh…this is Spy stuff….” – The Marx Brothers

What a good weekend…

The weekend started with watching the Movie “Click” under the stars on the North Quad at BW. Although I had already seen the movie it was still great the second time around. Saturday brought even more fun with training in the morning for my new job. Yes, I have another job. It’s just what I do- have lots of jobs and activies and then go crazy. Anyway, I’m going to start tutoring kids that have autism, and I am super excited. I think I’m going to really enjoy the hands on, getting to see the kids lives change, rather then being in an office. Saturday night was very enjoyable at the Heese residence. “The Shindig” or something (it may have a real name, but I don’t know for sure) but it’s an annual gathering of family and friends. The unique part of this gathering is the music performances. Apparently the Heese’s family and friends are very musically inclinded and so they had a little tent sent up with speakers. I also learned how to play a new game! Hannah, Jane, and I played “Hillbill golf”. I kid you not, this is the actually name. Please take note of the picture. There are two goals set up about 40 feet apart. And then there are these strings that have golf balls on either end and the idea is it to get the stringed gold balls to wrap around one the of bars on the goal and points are awarded 1 for the top, 3 for the middle and 2 for the bottom. It’s a very fun game! And Hannah and I have decided we need to build one- I’m sure I’ll be posting about that in the future. Saturday also brought the OSU vs. Texas game- go OSU they played quite well. Sunday was also an enjoyable day with church (awesome sermon!), lunch with Gran and Gramps, and a choir concert in honor of the 150th bday of the Hampton UMC which Joe’s parents sang in and grandma directed. And then Joe and I got chinese food and tried to talk to this little chinese boy who was wandering around the restaurant- he was so sweet. Now, the weekend it coming to a close and I get to start another week of classes and work (oh boy!). So in conclusion, this weekend was full of roses (good things), and lacked thorns(not so good things).

Getting measurements for Hillbilly golf- thanks Hannah!

Browns Game

Well I can now say I have attended two Browns games. Thanks to Luke and Hannah an enjoyable evening was spent at the Browns stadium watching the last practice game. Unfortuntely they lost, but at least it was only practice. The best part was during half time when the pee wee teams get to play on the field. They were so small- especially # 2. They seemed so excited to be playing on the Browns field- what a great opportunity for those young boys. Another great part of the evening was having Luke, Hannah, and Faith attend the MNM Block Party! It’s so great to be at college!! You gotta love the loud music, free food, games, and line dancing in the street :)
